Finishing our Boston Trip

Hi All,

After Yom Kippur with the Brody's and the last of our 14 medical appointments (good thing we are healthy ;-) we returned to Roberta & Elliot's. We visited Sandy's mom a couple of times and went to two movies. "Untouchables"was wonderful. "The Master" included two Oscar calibre performances and an indecipherable plot described by one reviewer as "evasive and elliptical".

Monday the rain stopped and we went birding at Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge.

Today we fly back to Phoenix and head for the balloon festival in Albuquerque.

Visiting Jean & Geno

Hi All,

Shortly before we retired, our Hudson, NH friends Jean and Geno Farnham retired and built a house near Lake Winnipesaukee.

We visited them on Monday at the lake. It was wonderful to see them. We had lunch at Castle in the Clouds with a great view of the lake.

After lunch we went to Wolfboro to shop for jewelry and soak up more lake scenery.

Time with Don & Sandy

Hi All,

We are having a great time with Don and Sandy Shapiro. 

Friday night we had lobster for eight

Saturday they took us for a "Mystery Ride" to Woodstock, VT. Too early for much foliage color but a nice drive and good lunch here.

This general store is 126 years old. They have their first cash register from 1896 and phone from 1914.

This is about 20% of the beer selection

The Revolutionary War encampment was on the common. We heard but did not see the canon firing.

North Shore & NH

Hi All,

Today we headed north with Roberta & Elliot. First stop was the Crane Estate in Ipswich. This mansion was the summer home of the Crane family, famous for bathroom fixtures. The 59 room home is open for tours but we were not allowed to take pictures inside.

Then on to Hampton Beach

Home to a great sand sculpture competition each year.

We then hiked a little at Odiorne State Park, drove past Wentworth, through Portsmouth then home.

Boston Architecture

Hi All,

We're in the Boston area to visit family & friends for a few weeks. Today we went with Roberta & Elliot on a Boston Harbor cruise sponsored by the architectural society. It was a beautiful day and we learned a lot about the buildings and bridges along the harbor and Charles River.

Boynton Canyon

Hi All,

The volunteer at the Sedona Visitor Center recommended Boynton Canyon as a beautiful 4-6 mile hike. He was right.

The beauty starts before we get into town.

Towering Ted rock spires are everywhere.

Banded sandstone pinnacles 

beauty in every direction.

We hiked in a little over two miles enjoying all the views but soon wilted in the 90 degree heat so we headed back.

Verde Canyon Railroad

Hi All,

Morning rain washed out our birding plans so we spent time exploring the funky town of Cottonwood.

In the afternoon we took the train through Verde Canyon.

This scenic tourist railway has been operating since the late 1990's

The FP7 Diesel locomotives were built in the 60's and originally worked in Akaska.

Across the trestle along the red rock canyon

And along the Verde River canyon

Then through the 650 foot tunnel

To more beautiful red rock canyons.

It was a fun three and a half hours.
