Last month we visited Fort Caroline and learned about the Spanish massacre of French soldiers who had attempted to attack St Augustine. Fort Matanzas is the site of that massacre, in Spanish, Matanzas means "slaughter".
The current fort was built 200 years later to protect against attacks by the British colony in Savannah, GA
This small fort had five cannon to protect the southern approaches to St Augustine

In Quincy, MA we visited the birthplace and home of John Adams and four generations of his family including John Quincy Adams, his oldest son and sixth President.
Even though we have lived most of our lives within an hours drive of this place, we had never before visited. Roberta and Elliot had been here before.
An excellent 25 min movie in the Visitor Center tells about the lives of the Adams family and their dedication to public service.
We then walked to several nearby sites including the Old House at Peace Field
