Geek Alert: Rocket Engine Inflation

Hi All,

As a space geek, I have been following the "growth " of SpaceX rockets. Following the single engine Falcon 1, there have been-

The Falcon 9 with 9 Merlin engines

Then the Falcon Heavy, basically three Falcon 9s-27 engines.

And now the Starship Super Heavy Booster planned for its maiden launch early next year. 29 of the more powerful Raptor engines
with plans for 32 total in the future. More powerful than the Apollo Saturn 5!

Stay tuned.

Catching Up

Hi All,

After our wonderful DC Night Tour our tourist experience was mixed. On Wednesday we headed for the Air and Space Museum only to find it closed. Plan B was the American Indian Museum next door. It was evacuated due to a bomb scare! We Yelped a nice deli for lunch but found it was take out only😖. Only nearby option was McDonald's😩.
During lunch we went online and got tickets for the African American Museum. After a long walk we had a sobering but extraordinarily well done experience at the museum. From Slavery  to Civil Rights and beyond. We left at 4:30 and rather than fight the mobs on the Metro, we took an Uber home.
At 7 AM on Thursday, Carl went online to get last minute Holocaust Museum tickets. Just like the African American Museum, these tickets are free but used to limit crowd sizes. Another sobering experience. One of the most painful was the story of the ship St Louis. Loaded with Jewish refugees trying to escape Hitler in 1939, it was refused entry from north and South American and European ports. Many or the over 900 refugees ended up back in German held territory and the fate they had sought to avoid.

Yesterday the Boston Globe obituaries included this
Never enough remembering indeed. Especially with some Texas school districts beginning to teach "alternatives" to the Holocaust. The bright spot of the day was a dinner visit with cousins Ann & Maurice who live in the DC area.

Stay safe & healthy

On the Mend

Hi All,

As many of you know, Carl was diagnosed with liver cancer about six weeks ago. It was early stage and small (3.6 x 2.4 cm).

Today he had the procedure to destroy the tumor with microwaves. Procedure took about an hour, he was out of the hospital in four hours and is resting comfortably, aka drugged, at home.

Thanks for all of your prayers, good thoughts and positive vibes.

Love,

Sandy & Carl

90 Likes and Counting

Hi All,

As most of you already know, we got a new kitten yesterday. We took this picture in the Petco where we adopted her.
On the way home Sandy posted it on Facebook. Forty likes before we gat home! Now up to 90! We named her Sanibel.

The internet has been flooded with jokes during the pandemic. Carl's all time favorite is-

"My fondest childhood memory is making sand castles with my grandpa- until mom hid his urn"

Stay safe and healthy, the vaccine is almost here

Great News!

Hi All,

This morning we drove back to the RV repair place to run the generator. That keeps the batteries topped off so the fridge keeps working.

What we found was complete chaos inside. The pantry was out, the draw was out, parts and pieces were all over the place.
This is great news on two counts- first they got to work on the coach Friday instead of waiting until Monday and second they had removed the water heater which was apparently the source of the leak. That was much better than a broken pipe hidden away in a hard to reach spot.

The fridge was fine and it looks like we can be on our way Tuesday morning.

On the Road Again

Hi All,

Saturday we concluded our wonderful visit with Millie. Thanks for your hospitality and your guide services. Friday we Zoomed Shabbat services from Millie's temple and Saturday we visited a winery and watched Hamilton in the evening. Throughout our visit we were careful, staying six plus feet apart in her condo and wearing masks in the car.

Sunday we hit the road with stops in LA and AL enroute to Greenville, SC.

Speaking of masks, a friend on the Wildlife Brigade sent us this.

For those of you confused by hurricane names, here is a guide to tropical storm naming conventions for our warming planet. This season we went A to Z and now we are up to Zeta in the Greek alphabet!
Stay safe & healthy
