Sealife Safari

Hi All,

Monday we went to the Clearwater Aquarium with Alan & Barbara to go on a Sealife Safari.

Once we got out in the bay they dragged a collection net to survey the fish and invertebrates. After a detailed inventory of the hundreds of creatures in the net they showed us some of the more interesting stuff including a pigmy octopus 

a variegated sea urchin 

and this puffer fish.

Some tour boats are really over the top.

In the condo, Carl needed to fight for his lunch.

The evening sky continues to be a gift that keeps on giving.

End of an Era



Hi All,

The sun has set on our motorhoming days just as in this moonlight photo.

The motorhome has been sold finally. It was very sad and we were both close to tears but it was also a HUGE relief.

In the silly signs department this might be a repeat but listen up guys, this is critical information.

Things are great in the condo. Pretty well decorated except for some wall hangings. 

The PBS Nature show is Sanibelle's favorite 

and the sunsets are gifts that keep on giving.

Sunsets and Silly Signs



Hi All,

We are slowly getting into a regular routine and less frequently ask ourselves when we need to check out of this lovely hotel we're living in! Next week we drive up to Jacksonville for Garrett and Wyatt's graduation from the University of North Florida-very excited!

Here are some sunsets and more silly signs from the last week or so. 

Must be really slippery!

On other news, Carl has been named a finalist in the National Space Society's "Space Settlement in our Lifetime" Competition. He has been invited to present his design at the upcoming International Space Development Conference in Dallas over Memorial Day Weekend. His plan for a 24 person Moon settlement to harvest water, process rocket propellant and grow long term, sustainable food is competing for a $32,000 prize pool.

Getting Back to Nature

Hi All,

Monday evening we attended the Clearwater Audubon Society (CAS) meeting and learned a lot about local butterflies. Tuesday evening we attended the local Shell club, Suncoast Conchologists.

Today we went on a CAS bird walk at John Chestnut Park. We saw lots of great birds and other wildlife but only a few got close enough for iPhone photography, like this cardinal.

and this huge soft shell turtle.

This red bellied woodpecker showed us his red belly.

This large bee colony has taken over a woodpecker hole.

This is a five-lined skink.

This park is free of air pollution as evidenced by this luxuriant growth of Christmas lichen.

We were all dissed by this barred owl.

No such problem at home. This is one of many different, "Are you going to feed me now?" looks.

Settling In and Relaxing

Hi All,

Friends sent us an email recently that included, " Hopefully you both are settled into your beautiful waterfront condo and enjoying a relaxed life!! "

We replied that we were pretty settled in but relaxation remained elusive. 

For example, today we left the condo at 9 AM to show our motorhome to a potential buyer. We then went to two home decorating stores, then Lowe's, Costco, the Post Office, Library and Walgreens.

At least it provided Carl more silly  signs to photograph.

Sunday we did spend time at our pool where a snowy egret landed within six feet of us to get a drink.

Sanibelle compensates for any relaxation deficit we might have!

More Pot Pourri

Hi All,

We are in the home stretch of furnishing our new condo. The coffee table arrives today and the couch is scheduled to arrive Saturday.

We came home late one night last week and were surprised how interesting our building looks in the dark.

Monday we tried a different lunch spot just north of us in Palm Harbor. There was a short line to get in! The staff feed this great egret every morning and can't understand why it hangs around all day. 

Every sunset is different.

This Osprey photo is from a BBC News article. The bird was banded in Scotland and spotted two years later, 4,200 miles away on Barbados in the Caribbean. It is speculated the bird rested in the Azores and possibly hitched a ride on a ship.

Settling in

Hi All,

We are just about done unpacking. Two weeks ago this wall was piled 6' high with boxes. Today we unpacked the last two 😀😀.

Now we wait for furniture delivery.

of course we have more time for shopping and finding funny signs

Fortunately we bought a big desk!

We hung our Ding Darling souvenir ornaments in the west facing window to catch the sunset.
