Birds and Bears

Hi All,

This week was another busy one with lots of bear activity both grizzly and black.

The berries were ripe along Signal Mountain Summit Road. First a small black bear fed along the road causing traffic chaos on the narrow winding road. After a while the bear would wonder out of sight, the traffic would clear and we drove to the top to enjoy the views and cell signal. This raven was right in the parking lot. Sadly it has probably been fed by visitors.

The bird was very mellow and stayed put even after I got out of the car to take this photo.

Here is Bear 399. The brown clump behind her is her quadruplets.
Tuesday, another grizzly bear with two cubs found the berries on the summit road. This is much more dangerous and we exercised our authority to close the road to all traffic. It was reopened this morning when the bears had moved on.

Meanwhile back at Jenny Lake, this black bear was in and out of the visitor area three times yesterday.  We yell and clap to get her moving and by 4:30 she was pooped so stopped to take a nap.
She awoke after about 20 minutes and wandered away. . . at least for now!

When we got back to our car we found a crowd of visitors watching a different black bear sow with one cub-within 50 feet of our car. Soooo, we spent another 45 minutes moving these bears away from the visitor area. Then we went home and made like the bear in the photo above.

Love,

Sandy & Carl
