Casa Grande National Monument

Hi All,

Yesterday we drove with Roberta & Elliot about 65 miles NW of Tucson to Casa Grande National Monument
We met up with our Calgary, AB friends Al & Tena deJong who are wintering near Phoenix. We first met Al & Tena in 2006 on a Habitat build and we've seen them several times since.

We toured the ruins with an excellent docent and learned about the enigmatic three story structure build around 1350 and abandoned roughly 100 years later.

The roof protects the "big house" so named by Father Kino, believed to be the first non-native to see the ruins. Also visible in this picture are the remains of other one and two story ruins.

This cut-away of the big house shows the pine logs used for the floors and ceilings.

On the way home we had this great view of the Catalina mountains.

Love,

Sandy & Carl
