North Coast to Derry

Hi All,

Today we drove the coast road around to Derry.

First stop was Glenraff Glen with magnificent vistas down the glen to the ocean.

We hiked a two mile trail down to several waterfalls including this double.

We took a side trip along a very narrow winding road out to Torr Head, the bit of Ireland  closest to Scotland.

At the ruins of Dunseverick Castle we had more postcard views.

Giant's Causeway is a World Heritage Site. It is another formation of hexagonal basalt columns. It was scenic but a bit disappointing as well. Perhaps we would have been more impressed if we had not been to Staffa Island. Here's the bay adjacent to the causeway.

This is a huge wall of basalt. Each column is about 20 inches across.

The adjacent headland was visually and geologically interesting.

We then drove to Derry and enjoyed this rainbow from our restaurant table.

A defensive wall was built around Derry in the 1500's. It withstood multiple sieges including an attack in 1606 when the English lobbed 701 shells over the wall into the town. Here's the Magazine Gate through the still standing wall.
Tomorrow we ferry back across the Irish Sea for our last two days in Britain.

Love,
