New Smyrna Getaway

Hi All,

We took off for a one night getaway to New Smyrna Beach just north of Cape Canaveral . First stop was Ponce Inlet lighthouse built in 1887.
At 175 feet tall it is the tallest lighthouse in Florida.

We climbed the 203 steps to the top

to enjoy the panoramic view of Ponce Inlet.

There is a lens museum on the grounds with several old lighthouse lenses of varying types. The largest is this 16' tall monster from the Cape Canaveral  lighthouse. With nearly 400 glass panels and prisms it weighs 12,800 pounds!

The formerly threatened wood stork has now filled many habitats including the roof and parking lot of a seafood restaurant.

There is a nice park on the south side of the inlet. It is about a mile from the lighthouse but a one hour drive. We watched a nice sunset from the boardwalk.
A wonderful day including an outstanding dinner at Cafe Verde.

Love,
