Split

Hi All,

Today the rain let up and we were off to the town of Split. The town is a mix of Roman, Baroque and Medieval architecture. A huge flea market has grown up along the eastern wall of Diocletian's Palace.

This is the Silver Gate on the east side of the palace.

The central plaza still has Roman Soldiers.

The underground palace has been taken over by jewelry booths.

We visited the small synagogue in Split as well. The Jewish community is down to 100 people. They have community Shabbat services every week but the rabbi from the capital, Zagreb, visits only twice a year.

Adjacent to Diocletian's mausoleum is the bell tower.

Elliot and Carl climbed the many flights into the tower to photograph Roberta and Sandy sitting far below.

We also had great views across the harbor.

Back at the house we enjoyed a glass of wine on the porch and talked about our next adventure.
Tomorrow we visit Mostar in Bosnia.

Love,

Sandy & Carl
