A Nice Day

Hi All,

We spent Friday afternoon at a really nice craft fair in New Smyrna Beach.

Lots of high quality jewelry, artwork and photography. Some people think it is expensive living in a motor home but when we saw all of the photos and artwork we liked, we realized how much we saved by not having wall space.

The fair went for six blocks along Canal St

then through the park along the river.

We may not have wall space but there's always room for another pendant!

Here's a big oak tree silhouetted by the afternoon sun.
After the fair we had dinner out in Daytona Beach then attended Shabbat evening services in Ormond Beach.

A wonderful day, life is good.

We Are Safe

Hi  All,

For the first time ever we have left the coach for the security of the School house central hallway.

We came here when the NWS issued a Tornado Warning for our location.

So far we are in the middle of the worst of it.

We'll keep you posted

Historic Downtown Melbourne

Hi All,

The old center of Melbourne has lots of neat shops that now have less jewelry, fewer blouses and less ice cream.

Lots of options along the Main Street.

There are also several neat murals.

This one was donated by the President of Scott's alma mater, Florida Institute of Technology. The Latin in the upper right means, "To reach the stars through science".

Here's one at the Foo Bar!

Meg O'Malley's Pub is a landmark eatery.

We didn't see a cattle egret yesterday so this guy came downtown to fill out our bird list.
With a forecast of bad weather approaching and the Patriots game at 6:40, we headed home early after a wonderful weekend .

Friends, Feathered and Otherwise

Hi All,

This weekend we drove down to Melbourne,FL to meet up with Roberta & Elliot. It was a two hour drive for both of us and we got a hotel room on the beach.

Being in Melbourne also gave us a chance to visit with friends Trudy and Marvin Horkin who live there. We met them at Cruikshank Park to look for Florida Scrub Jays. We saw several at a distance then this guy perched within range of Carl's new iPhone 7+ .

Next the Horkin's suggested Viera Wetlands where we saw a wonderful array of birds including this male anhinga

a pair of nesting great blue herons

and a large group of American white pelicans.

Here are Trudy, Sandy, Roberta and Elliot enjoying the birds and the sunset.

One more look at the sunset.
A delicious dinner at a local Italian restaurant followed by dessert at the Horkin's house brought an end to a wonderful day. Thank you Trudy & Marvin.

Out and About

Hi All,

With fewer school groups in early January we have had time for more exploring.

Sunday we hiked around Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge with the local Audubon group. Eagles, hawks and vultures filled the sky. A windy 45 degrees shortened our hike.

We also spotted this spike bark tree which, it turns out, is toxic.

Back in the coach, Ginger has found a comfy spot.

Today we drove to Kissemmee to hike around the Disney Wildlife Preserve. These cypress trees are in Lake Russell.
We also spent time talking to the volunteer at the Visitor Center. This place is a possibility for future Florida winter volunteering!

Happy 2017

Hi All,

Astonished that it had been over a month since our last email. Been busy here in Barberville.

We have seen Scott, Tara and the boys a few times during the month.

Also spotted this patient butterfly who pause long enough for a photo.

During the Christmas Remembered celebration, kids got to write a letter to Santa. This is one of our favorites.

There were no school field trips after Christmas so we started on the big project of cleaning out and reorganizing the barn. Carl spent a long time emptying the loft. This is the before photo.

This is after. Hard work but we found all sorts of neat stuff up there.

We also took time to visit the Stetson House, former winter home of the Stetson family of cowboy hat fame. The new owners do a fantastic job decorating it for Christmas.

For New Years we drove to Delray Beach to visit Roberta and Elliot and the other Massachusetts snow birds. Of course we also checked out the birds at Wakadohatchee and Green Cay.

This is sunset over the centerpiece of the settlement, the 1919 High School.
School groups have resumed and there's still lots to do in the barn so we will not be idle.
