Ocean Plastic Debris

Hi All,

The intensity of recent political and environmental issues can create a numbness to the plight of wildlife suffering from human neglect.

Then you see a photo like this albatross killed by plastic ingestion.
A painful blend of corporate greed and ignorance did this.

What will make it better?

Our Final Week

Hi All,

Our last four days on patrol were spent with moose and black bears on Moose Wilson Road.

Meanwhile grizzly 399 and her two cubs were spotted up north in the park.

Our black bear cubs slept in a stack in an aspen tree.

Everything beautiful is not furry. This is a Mourning Cloak butterfly.

As we drove away from Moose Wilson Rd on our last patrol day, the sunset was stunning.

Leaving would be harder
except we will be heading for our Winter dream job at Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge.

Prior to starting there in early December, we will tour some National Parks new to us and visit friends along the way.

Stay tuned for more adventures.

Love,

Sandy & Carl

Back to the Bears

Hi All,

Back from Boston it was back to the bears. Lots of activity around Park HQ and along Moose Wilson Rd. Here's a sub-adult in a roadside tree.

Another sow plus three cubs, here waiting at the ramp for for a raft to arrive!

When the bears were near the river they were visible from the bridge in Moose.

The cubs spent some time in a berry bush.

while mom worked on the lower branches.

Near The Rockefeller Preserve, this guy is cooling off in Lake Creek.
All these photos were taken over two days, most on Monday when we spent six hours with the bear family.

Best Birthday Party Ever

Hi All,

Last weekend we flew to Boston to celebrate Sandy's Aunt Lilly's 90th birthday.

Flying out of Jackson Hole Airport is very convenient and very scenic.
We flew out Thursday and returned Sunday. A quick but fabulous trip. Thank you to Roberta and Elliot for housing us and letting us share their family gathering.

This wonderful lady is Sandy's sole surviving aunt.
85 family, friends and neighbors joined in the celebration.

At age 72, Lilly began raising her grand daughters Samantha on the right and Sara on the left with Lilly's great grand daughter Allie.

Just some of Aunt Lilly's nieces and nephews.

Helping blow out the birthday candles are niece Linda and best friend of 60 years, Ellie.

We close with a few images from our flight into Boston. Many people ask about the nest of dinosaur eggs at the end of Spectacle Island. Actually part of s sewage treatment plant.

Many islands in Boston Harbor are part of a State Park. This is Fort Warren on Georges Island.

If anyone doubted that Marblehead was the yachting center of Massachusetts, check out the moored sailboats in the harbor.
Happy Birthday Aunt Lilly

Short Commute

Hi All,

Shortly before coming on duty at 0800, we heard a radio call about moose in our campground. We texted the campground manager asking where the moose were. Before he replied, we stepped outside and found two bull moose

five cows and almost 100 photographers and campers.

They all wandered slowly towards our motorhome (yes, the moose and the people)

then walked behind us heading for the river. (That's the back of our coach)!
Three fun hours with moose and many neat people.

L'Shana Tova to our Jewish family and friends. The Jewish New Year starts tonight.
