Shell Museum

Hi All,

The National Shell Museum here on Sanibel reopened recently. We we're eager to see their new live mollusk exhibits so we donned our masks, packed our hand sanitizer and went for a visit.

This is a Junonia. They are so rare on the beach that, if you find one, they will put your photo in the local paper!

They have a few fish in addition to mollusks. This curious trunk fish swam right up to the glass.

The museum shell exhibit has some amazing specimens.

The museum has a research collection in addition to the exhibits. They have 250 storage cabinets like this to house their collection.

This helmet shell has been carved into a translucent cameo.

Shells may look interesting but only an X-ray will reveal their true complexity.

Just another example of the wide ranging exhibits.

Stay safe

Love,

Sandy & Carl
