Catching Up

Hi All,

After our wonderful DC Night Tour our tourist experience was mixed. On Wednesday we headed for the Air and Space Museum only to find it closed. Plan B was the American Indian Museum next door. It was evacuated due to a bomb scare! We Yelped a nice deli for lunch but found it was take out only😖. Only nearby option was McDonald's😩.
During lunch we went online and got tickets for the African American Museum. After a long walk we had a sobering but extraordinarily well done experience at the museum. From Slavery  to Civil Rights and beyond. We left at 4:30 and rather than fight the mobs on the Metro, we took an Uber home.
At 7 AM on Thursday, Carl went online to get last minute Holocaust Museum tickets. Just like the African American Museum, these tickets are free but used to limit crowd sizes. Another sobering experience. One of the most painful was the story of the ship St Louis. Loaded with Jewish refugees trying to escape Hitler in 1939, it was refused entry from north and South American and European ports. Many or the over 900 refugees ended up back in German held territory and the fate they had sought to avoid.

Yesterday the Boston Globe obituaries included this
Never enough remembering indeed. Especially with some Texas school districts beginning to teach "alternatives" to the Holocaust. The bright spot of the day was a dinner visit with cousins Ann & Maurice who live in the DC area.

Stay safe & healthy

Love,

Sandy & Carl
