South Uist to Oban

Hi All,

Today was another two ferry day as we made our way to Oban back on the mainland.

The Trinity Temple was a monastery and college built between 1350-1390. The ruins were preserved and stabilized by the local community.

Along the way we found more shaggy Highland cattle close to the road.

Near the southern end of South Uist we came upon the marker commemorating the birthplace of Flora MacDonald whose grave we visited on Skye. Here we learned that thousands of people attended her funeral, the procession was over a mile long and 300 gallons of whiskey were consumed at the wake!

Next a small ferry took us to Barra.

Castle Bay is at the south end of Barra. Easy to see how the name came about.

Here we boarded a large ferry for the trip to Oban. Note the warning sign about driving off the ferry dock!
This completed our wonderful exploration of the Outer Hebrides.

Love,
