Lehman Caves

Hi All,

Yesterday we drove to Baker, NV to visit Great Basin National Park. First stop today was a two hour tour of Lehman Caves. The system winds for almost a mile under the mountain.


Access to the cave was very difficult at first, sparing it the vandalism suffered by more accessible caves.

However, in the 20's the local Elks met and partied here in what is now the Lodge Room.

There are several large rooms with elaborate formations.

We were assured this was not a skeleton encased in the limestone.

Looks like a strawberry fountain!

Some formations are unimaginably delicate.

Here Ranger Ben is illuminating a formation called cave bacon.
