DC Day 2

Hi All,

We spent the day visiting several different Smithsonian buildings, starting at the "Castle".

First stop was a special exhibit about Turquoise Mountain, an organization established in 2006 to rebuild the Kabul neighborhood of Murad Khani and cultivate traditional Afghan craft skills like woodworking

rug weaving

and jewelry making.

Later at the Sackler Gallery we admired this gold Persian breastplate from 509 bce.

Next door at the Hirshorn modern art gallery we found this piece, created by spreading gunpowder across the paper then lighting it!

Carl was delighted that the giant bird eating tarantula was still on display.

At the end of a long day, we were back in the Metro station headed back to the campground.

Love,

Sandy & Carl
