First Stop Headed North

Hi All,

We departed Fort Caroline Saturday morning. It was sad to leave but more adventures await. Our first stop was St Mary's, GA in the beautiful Crooked River State Park.

We were up early today to catch the first boat to Cumberland Island.

Once on the island we joined Ranger Robin on a 90 minute guided walk. Here he tells us about this old live oak with dozens of burls.

This island was formally owned by Tom Carnegie, brother and business partner of Andrew. Tom, his wife Lucy and their nine children spent winters in this huge mansion known as Dungeness.

Prior to the fire it looked like this!

After the ranger tour we hiked across the island, over sand dunes with sun bleached trees

and interesting knotholes.

At the beach we saw the first of many of Cumberland's wild horses.

After a long hike up the beach we took another boardwalk back across the dune and found ourselves in this magical forest straight out of Alice in Wonderland. One of these trees even had a big knothole with a raccoon peering out.
We concluded this great day sitting by a campfire. Life is good!

Love,
