Jekyll Island

Hi All,

We have spent the last three days on Jekyll Island, the former home of the rich and famous on the Georgia coast. There has been lots of beachfront development since we were here last but there is still plenty of wild beach with birds and neat driftwood.

Yesterday we were beach bums and in the evening we went on a sunset dolphin cruise. Too cloudy for a sunset but we saw several dolphins.

Today we started at the Sea Turtle Center

Here in the treatment room, staff and volunteers work on two young loggerhead turtles. A close look at the near one reveals a bandage around a serious neck wound. She was named Marie Antoinette!

They have about 20 turtles in rehab at this time.

We chose to walk around the historic district but these folks toured in style.

The Jekyll Island Hotel is a sprawling building from the late 1800's.

This is the newest "cottage" built by the Gould family in 1927.
Tomorrow we will continue north. It has been six days since we left Florida and we have only gone about 100 miles but we will now pick up the pace.

Love,
