Chanting & Dancing

Hi All,

Last evening we went to the nearby Buddhist temple for some meditation. Instructed by one of the monks, we practiced standing, walking, seated and reclining meditation.

Most of the monks were chanting in the temple. A new entrance gate was being dedicated and this was part of the ceremony. Notice the money in the foreground. This is a small part of the community donations that funded the new gate.
The chanting went on and on. When we asked, how long do they chant? 45 minutes!

This morning we flew to Phnom Penh in Cambodia. We met our new local guide Veng.

Our first stop in Phnom Penh was the Apsara Dancing School.

Here they are preserving the traditional Cambodian dances

The students practice four hours a day, six days a week.

They also have a drawing school. Here a young man is drawing a frangipani flower.

There is a music program as well. All dedicated to preserving the arts and culture that the Khmer Rouge tried to extinguish.
We have done and seen so much. Hard to believe we are only at the half way point.

Love,

Sandy & Carl
