Day in the Life Part 2

Hi All,

As part of OAT's commitment to give back to the local communities, they "adopt" villages in the areas where they tour, providing infrastructure improvements and school construction. One such village is in Ban Tin Kaew.

On the banks of the Mekong River, this village has 80 families and about 450 people.

As we toured we met a basket maker

and a blacksmith.

The school kids sang a song and danced for us

then came around to show us their favorite books.

We also visited the spirit leader of the mountain Hmong residents.
After telling us about his two wives and 12 children as well as some of his spirit healing he donned his sacred costume and played this unique bamboo wind instrument.

We also visited the Community Center where dozens of women weave silk items for sale. They have fewer items than when they arrived.
Life is hard in this village even with the OAT support yet the people are uniformly friendly and happy. Sandy suggested that perhaps their Buddhist teachings about contentment and non-materialistic lifestyles contributes to this.

Love,

Sandy & Carl
