Luang Prabang Laos

Hi All,

Monday morning we flew northeast for about an hour to Luang Prabang, the ancient capital of Laos. Here is the Khan River just before it joins the Mekong.

We visited Wat Xieng Thong, a 16th century temple.

It houses the royal funeral carriage. The kings were embalmed in the large urn then cremated.

In the past, there was a 96 pound 24 K solid gold Buddha here!

The buildings are covered with mosaics depicting Buddhist legends.

Next stop was the temple atop Phousi Hill. The trail to the temple is 328 steps up the hillside. Three members of our group including Carl made the climb. Here's the view across the Khan River. Note the golden stupa on the distant hillside.

These little cages contain two little birds. For $3 Carl bought one and set the birds free. Supposed to bring luck. Certainly lucky for the birds.

The Laotian flag flies at the hilltop.
A different culture and wonderful experiences.

Love,

Sandy & Carl
